About CPD center
Ethiopia's Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) has launched a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program to help health workers improve their skills through the implementation of standardized in-service training packages. The major purpose of the CPD program is to ensure that competent health professionals provide quality health care services while linking continuing education units (CEUs) to professional licensure and renewal mechanisms of the health taskforce.
Hosanna Health Sciences College is one of the accredited and licensed CPD providers in Ethiopia health care system. Health care personnel have received training based on the needs of the healthcare system, which have been examined using both top-down and bottom-up approaches. The college has a dedicated staff and panel of experts in various disciplines who are capable of engaging in various capacity building, needs assessment, monitoring, and evaluation activities.

By the end of 2026/7, the CPD Center of the college aspires to be one of the top performing CPD centers in Ethiopia in preparing accredited CPD courses and providing short term in-service trainings.

CPD Program responsibilities
CPD center has the following main responsibilities.
- Prepares annual training plan of the CPD courses and communicates the courses and their accreditation number including CEUs with all stakeholders.
- Prepares timetable/schedule for the implementation of the training in collaboration with facilitators and resource persons.
- Develops and provides accredited CPD courses based on the annual plan.
- Ensures training quality requirements in course design and delivery mechanisms.
- Prepares reports on training, internal monitoring and evaluation of CPD activities and ensures their documentation.
- Prepares and ensures the availability of adequate numbers of tools and materials required for the delivery of every CPD course.
- Disseminates reports of CPD activities regularly to the higher levels including Ministry of health, the accreditor, RHB and other stake holders;
- Contacts relevant facilitators and resource persons for the CPD courses ahead of time.
- Selects and prepares field sites for the training and arranges materials for field practice including transportation as required.
- Collects feedback from participants, facilitators and other relevant stakeholders.
- Makes arrangements and conducts post training follow up activities.
- Prepares database of accredited CPD course providers or trainers.
- Carry out other responsibilities related to CPD.
Collaboration
CPD works in collaboration with different governmental and non-governmental organizations as well as professional associations working in the particular areas of training including FMoH, CERSRHB, Zonal health departments…etc. The CPD center is also open to work with both local and international partners so as to implement CPD program and improve public health and healthcare quality.
